The Water City Jazz Orchestra was founded in 2015 by trumpeter Kurt Shipe and drummer Mike Malone. The two co-directors met in college at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire where they performed in the GRAMMY nominated Jazz Ensemble I together. After both relocating to Oshkosh, the two made plans to form a youthful addition to the big band music scene in the Fox Valley. Together they comprised an ensemble featuring some of the most talented musicians in the area including musicians from a wide background. The band currently performs the last Monday of the month at Fletch's Local Taphouse in Oshkosh, and frequently provides educational opportunities geared towards engaging young students in jazz music.
